The LAN Hangar project at Miami International Airport was conceived as a cutting-edge maintenance and operations complex that reflects the latest advancements in aviation design, technology, and sustainability. Serving as a critical hub for the next generation of Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, the facility was carefully planned to support the demanding requirements of heavy aircraft maintenance while creating a modern, efficient workspace for technicians and support staff. Spanning approximately 60,000 square feet, the hangar incorporates free-spanning structural bays and oversized hydraulic doors that provide full ramp access, allowing aircraft to be moved in and out with ease and reducing turnaround times. The design integrates robust safety systems, advanced fire-suppression technologies, and energy-efficient mechanical and electrical systems to meet the most rigorous industry standards.
The exterior envelope is composed of high-performance insulated metal panels combined with Kalwall translucent wall systems, bringing abundant natural light deep into the maintenance areas. This daylighting strategy not only reduces energy consumption but also improves visibility and comfort for personnel, enhancing productivity and safety. Ancillary spaces, including administrative offices, parts storage, and specialized workshops are strategically located to streamline operations and promote clear sightlines to the hangar floor.
